Memory books are personal narratives about the past with autobiographical insights of time and place inhabited by their narrators. Their analysis shows the socio-historical and cultural environment in which the lives of the protagonists unfold and the impact of this environment on the formation of their social identities. We review Una mujer por caminos de España, by María Martínez Sierra (1989); Memoria de la melancolía, by María Teresa León (1977) and Concha Méndez. Memorias habladas, memorias armadas (2018), by Paloma Ulacia Altolaguirre, to reconstruct the Spanish Silver Age through personal memories. The method of analysis is based on a triangulation formed by the theories of discourse analysis, literary criticism and Paul Ricoeur's (2000) phenomenology. The results indicate that the self-understanding exercise carried out by the authors through the act of writing offers them the possibility of rescuing the fundamental role of women in the emerging Spanish society of the Second Republic.
