In Spain during the Transiciónperiod (1966-1982) youth movements and generational conflicts acquired a relevant role in that social, political and economic transformation. Culture was one of the keys of this transformation starting from the end of the 60's. The interest in literature from abroad, suchus that of the "Beat Generation", had a strong influence among the young generation. Translations of texts by Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac and William Burroughs, as well as pop music and youth publications, gave birth to new aesthetic models. Starting from the methodological parameters of Comparative Literature, this paper aims to study the influence of the beat writers on the poetic work Escatófago (1968-1972), by Fernando Merlo and the literary criticism of Miguel Romero Esteo.
