In this paper, we reconstruct through the press of the time the truncated history of a theatre project announced in 1912 by Rubén Darío, who was inspired by his famous tale Sonatina. This is one of his "miliunanochescas" creations, an adjective coined by the poet himself, that best reflects his entry into the children's literary universe. The writing of the drama La princesa está tristewas abandoned (or unfinished) by the Nicaraguan playwright. However, the great popularity of the composition and the prestige of its author inspired, at his death, different versions for the stage, whose context of production and its critical receptionwe report. From the first two dramatic sequels of greatest interest, signed by Felipe Sassone and Raúl Contreras, we also recover the documentary and bibliographic traces that had been unnoticed thus far.
