By 1570, don Diego de Castro Titu Cusi Yupanqui experiences a double crisis: a cosmic crisis (due to the disarrangement of in Inca empire) that reflects a personal crisis, which is his life as a refugee in Vilcabamba, those «mountains» and «necessity» where he composes the Instrucción al licenciado Lope García de Castro. This article explores two images (chains and tears) that pervade a big part of the Instrucción, in which Titu Cusi tells the complex relationship between his father, Manco Inca, and the Conquistadors.Titu Cusi uses the narrative of this unhappy events to claim, as a legitim heir (although having renounced to the empire) justice and reparation before the Crown for the Conquistadors' abuses suffered by his father
