The article proposes an analysis of allegory as a fundamental operator of the baroque figurative dispositif of re-centring the world. To this end, it offers an interpretation of Gracián's work, Agudeza y arte de ingenio, within the framework of Christian figural interpretation (E. Auerbach) and in relation to the process of deconstruction of Christianity (J.-L. Nancy) that took place in modernity. The attention to the speculative concept of allegory proposed by W. Benjamin in his study of the Trauerspiel allows us to discover several fundamental hermeneutical keys to understanding the important role of allegory in the baroque conception. Allegory then appears as a key element of the theory of style that Gracián's work offers, as a structural feature of his figure of wit and as a defining key of baroque hermeneutics that makes it irreducible to the Renaissance hermeneutics of resemblance
