In this study I analyse two poems of doubtful attribution to Rodrigo Manrique, Jorge Manrique's father. I also study the reason for the writing of both compositions. It is not a simple game or poetic amusement, as critics usually point out, but rather a political cause related to the fact that the two most powerful men of his time, the masters of Santiago D. Álvaro de Luna and the Marquis of Villena-enemies of D. Rodrigo- welcomed Juan de Valladolid, also known as Juan Poeta, to their court. His poetic revenge against the latter is also an attack on those who prevented him from becoming a master of Santiago -what he most longed for- until almost the end of his life.
