Politics and rhetoric in la Hora de todos: the orationes fictae (with a glance at Marco bruto) Orationes fictae are important elements, both in historical works and in the Menippean satire of Classical and Humanistic times, and are to be found in both types of work amongst Quevedos writings. In the present study some of the characteristics of the speeches in la Hora de todos are examined, including the relationship between the narrator and the speakers, the fictional context of the speeches, and their structure, function and reception, in the light of previous studies of the orationes fictae in Quevedos historical narratives. In this context, the analysis of Cuadro XXXV is especially important because it offers a more general reflection concerning the role of political oratory under an absolutist regime, and therefore lends itself to comparison with the third sequence of Marco Bruto.
