                            [a] => This article is the result of research carried out with reference to one of the lexicographical products most relevant to language scholars, philologists and translators. Attention in this case is drawn to (historical and current) monolingual and bilingual dictionaries in the French and Spanish languages to try to put in place a classification of such lexicographical works. Knowing what dictionary is in one�s hands facilitates the work of consultation for linguistic and/or translational purposes. As a consequence, the object of this article is to provide criteria to the user of dictionaries for establishing a preference for one work or another according to the search aims and purpose of activity.
