Mesoamerican heritage is resilient in Mexican culture. Contemporary visual arts and poetry are marked not only by their insertion in the avant-garde but also by an acute consciousness of the actuality and by the presence of their original past. This article reflects on the cultural bridges offered by works which are as much re-creations no less than a critical approach based on the Mesoamerican ideological constructions, and their manifestations (both archaeological and contemporary) through the comparative study of Pre-Columbian images within Frida Kahlos painting as well as in the poetry of Efraín Huerta and Octavio Paz.
