The present paper focus on how decisive was the contribution of the spanish dramatist Antonio Gil y Zárate to the improvement of the bettered spanish drama in the nineteenth century. Gil y Zárate knew that the controversy between the radical classist and the exalted romantics about which could be the best pattern for writing plays at that time was useless. So he showed his own formula to ensure success: it is the eclepticism. Carlos 11, el Hechizado (1837) is one of bis most famous dramas. The playwright proved on it succesful his new treatment could be. Here we study some of the most notable resources of this drama.
