Más allá del olvido (2007) is the first novel by Andrés Martínez Oria. Built around a plot set in the Maragatería region of León, it transcends and universalises local colour. A successful and profound handling of character and setting is achieved, with even greater perfection to be found in respect of formal aspects. A sequencing of the facts starting from the main character's memory allows the writer to combine various time-lines and offer the reader the leading character's life-path, which explains, without justifying, his crime. Rich in culture and intertextuality, this novel offers the reader alternative interpretations: a primary or naive reading, or one more steeped in culture, evident in a ample variety of words and expressions.
