    Plato's Republic continues to arouse intense controversy among philosophers and commentators, for both its ethical and political project and its psychological, epistemological and ontological implications for the knowledge of philosophers, who, says Plato, should be set as guides of such a project. My purpose here is to indicate some of the main lines of discussion that the critical literature has followed, in the XX century, to bring out some of the problems raised by the ethical and political doctrines emerging in the dialogue.
