Fictional dialogues are a vehicle of characterization by means of which the authors provide the readers with information not only concerning basic features such as social or economic backgrounds but, also, about the interpersonal relationships in which factors such as status, age and gender interact. The purpose of this paper is to show how gender and sociological distinctions yield significant differences in discursive interaction. For this purpose, we have selected various text excerpts from four Victorian novels written by women, that correspond to dialogues between male and female characters in which a wide range of features such as age or social and economic status interact.
