This analysis of the celebrated story "El grafógrafo" written by the Mexican novelist Salvador Elizondo, and published in 1972, proposes a text grammar of the story. The approach is in six parts: 1) the text 2) paratexts 3) the corpus of the story 4) correspondences and conventions 5) the self; and 6) conclusions. The second part describes the forms of text organization at each level: programs of meaning in the title and dedication, including the manner in which they are related; characteristics of the story proper, the connection of the story to other literary forms and the particularities of the presence of a self which reveals a dense and solid self-confirmation which becomes an axis of meaning. We observe the production of an identity of power by means of writing, and its relation to the figure of hierarchy.
