The goal of this paper is to ana- lyze and highlight the bene ts of the inclusion of 'the verb' as a grammatical category into the 'language classroom'. This is done in order to bring the issue into analytical debate. Re ections appear as the result of tracing and analyzing previous research which focuses on the role of grammar on both of cial curriculum proposals and concrete proposals for 'the language class- room'. Although re ection about the verb -as a grammatical category- appears within teaching proposals, it is sometimes relegat- ed by other needs such as text correction. This paper argues that in order to achieve effective text comprehension and to create and promote critical reading techniques, re ection on sentence grammar plays an essential role.
