The seven stories transcribed here in Spanish are part of a corpus collected in the village of San Bernardo, Oaxaca, on August 15, 16, 17 and 18, in 2017. These stories share a common narrative core: serpents related to the mythical Origin and to the development of this village. They operate as protective entities of the place, according to the beliefs of the natives. However, as this article will show, they meet other functions and show points of connection with other narrative traditions.
