By analyzing the symbolic value that the main predators bore in medieval animal literature, this paper attempts to highlight the anticlerical critique made against the Franciscan friars in Bergadis' "Apokopos 217-8", in which the friar is compared to a kite, in order to arrive at the ultimate positive meaning of the simile as far as the virtuous widows are concerned.
