In this article we propose an approach to a series of convergent elements of Edgar Lee Master's Spoon River Anthology (1915) and Juan Rulfo's Pedro Páramo (1955). This approach is based on four issues: the structural principles, the voices, the characters and the treatment of death. From this comparative point of view, both works reciprocally illuminate each other and we observe significant similarities and differences. Instead of suggesting a genetic dependence of Pedro Páramo in relation to the Spoon River Anthology, we consider concomitances, coincidences. These are particularly intense, in spite of the exact forty years that separate their publications.
