In this paper different representationsof childhood in Mary Shelley's Frankensteinare analyzed. For this, three sectionshave been arranged. First, the novel is set inthe context of its production, and then someelements of the romanticized vision of thefirst part of human's lives are analyzed. AlzatePiedrahíta (2002) understands that theperception of modern childhood has variedthroughout history based on changes inthe modes of socialization. If thinking childhoodhas two fronts, the human and themonstrous in Frankenstein, how does thisquestion link with the romantic matrix thatoperates in the text? In the second section, through the textual analysis of some fragments, the childhood of the protagonist andhis adoptive sister, Elizabeth, are compared. Finally, the creature and his link to the characterthat created him are studied. After hisbirth, he behaves like any child who imitateswhat others do, and finds himself lost withouta tutor to guide him.
