                            [a] => This article analyses the relationship between Leopoldo Alas "Clarín" and Antonio de Valbuena, literary critics in the last third of the 19th century. In 1879 Clarín harshly criticized Valbuena, but since 1885 they started a friendship which would last all their life. In their newspaper articles we find abundant evidence of their mutual liking and respect, in spite of their obvious ideological differences. This text also gives us a glimpse of the state of literary criticism in the time of the Bourbon Restoration.
