In this paper, we study the distribution in Italy of Padilla's poems and the variants of five texts transmitted by the author's collections (the Autograph and two printed books edited by Padilla) and by a songbook preserved in Rome, a Vatican Library manuscript (Reg.Lat.1635) that belonged to Queen Cristina of Sweden. The codex is of Andalusian origin and is of early date (1570-1580), and therefore belongs to the same period and to the same area in which the first Padilla collections were made. By comparing these manuscript witnesses, it is concluded that this testimony preserves archaic readings and often coincides with the original version of Padilla's Autograph. We also conclude that it is the repository of stanzas and verses that were lost in the rest of the tradition.
