                            [a] => In the last few years, the use in Linguistics of tools proceeding from the Prototype Theory has produced a hard controversy. As any radical change of perspective, this approach has pointed out new and interesting questions, but the claim to give an overall proposal about categorization restricts it too much. Prototypes seem to be the only choice against an old view, constituting the usually called cognitive Linguistics. So, a new programme of research arises just on the basis of a few works, away from Linguistics. The enormous attractiveness of this option does not justify such carelessness in the elaboration of a conceptual framework. This paper tries to define the notion of prototype in order to surpass this pre-theoretical stage and introduce it rigorously in linguistic theory.
