In describing the changes through which the poem went from its first to its final (printed) incarnation, the essay hopes to present an object lesson in the poet�s creative process. Since "La canción coja" deals precisely with the process of writing, a comparison of its view of the creative process with that revealed in the revisions of the initial draft will prove instructive and will cast light on Belli�s notion of the poet as alchemist, particularly as regards his own work.
