Born in Don Benito, and despite his provincial background, this author developed an essayistic prose in which he shows a deep knowledge of both the universal literary tradition and his own contemporaneity from an attentive, critical and judicious reader's point of view. This research paper aims to delve deeper in the analysis of Resonancias (1932), a set of literary impressions stemming from such attentive readings. Valdés's most striking peculiarity is, as will be shown, the selective list of authors that he studies and of which he writes about in a very clear and precise prose.
