Diván del Tamarit is one of the half-forgotten works among Lorca's poeticoutput, but it is the most ambitious book (20 poems) from his "mature"period, for which reason it surely deserves more attention than it tends to receive. This essay outlines a general approach to the collection- chronology of composition, the "Arab-Andalusian" setting, themes, internal organization, symbolism, stylistic features, after which it focuses on three poems, "Gacela del amor imprevisto," "Casida del sueño al aire libre," and "Casida de la mano imposible," that exemplify different facets of Lorca's lyric expression, ranging from the most complex and near-hermetic to the most direct and affecting.
