Writing in the university environmentrequires the accompaniment and guidanceof the teacher. It is clear that writtencomposition cannot be approached solely as aduty apart from the needs and interests of thestudents. The purpose of the following studyis that a group of seven students of in trainingto be teachers, with previous professional careers, could experience the process of writingfrom the construction of an autobiography. Inthis sense, it was possible to relate the learningof the subprocesses involved in the act of writingwith the production of an autobiographicalstory that generated spaces for subjectivityand introspection to emerge. A qualitative andethnographic approach was adopted, whichmade it possible to detail positive changes inthe texts produced, according to a sequenceof drafts or intermediate versions. It was concludedthat writing at the university requiresspecific didactic situations that lead studentsto reflect on and re-dimension the role thatwritten language plays, not only in terms of thehandling of discursive genres, but also in theconstruction of their own voice and in the reaffirmationof their identity as social and culturalbeings.
