The methodological basis is the concept of paratextuality outlined by Genette in the broader context of his general poetics on transtextuality; this work focuses in particular on the use of the allographic note in translation of some Andrea Camilleri's and of Arturo Pérez-Reverte's works. The aim is to demonstrate, even with rather partial data, that the use of allographic notes in the translations of these authors is of great use to give a concrete idea of the linguistic varieties and culture of the countries of origin. Inserting them in a translation does not imply an admission of incompetence on the part of the translator, but it does reveal the ethical will to share with a foreign reader the choices, language and strategies of an author from another country, to make perceive the immeasurability of the differences between cultures - which however does not prevent communication -, as a value and not as a defeat.
